Together, we create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Along with the national office, eight regional chapters grant magical wishes to children in need from coast-to-coast. Make-A-Wish Canada is an affiliate of Make-A-Wish® International, the largest wish-granting organization in the world, making dreams and wishes come true for more than 450,000 children since 1980.
When children are battling a critical illness, so much of normal childhood is taken away from them — it is exhausting, both emotionally and physically. A wish is something that gives children the opportunity to look outside their illness — it restores a sense of childhood back to the child and normalcy back to the family.
Research shows, and physicians agree, wishes can help improve a child's quality of life and produce better health outcomes. Members of the Make-A-Wish® America Medical Advisory Committee share the life-changing impact wishes have — beyond just medicine — on their patients and their families.
We are currently working on over 40 wishes in 26 different cities/communities across our province. We grant 4 types of wishes: I wish to meet, I wish to go, I wish to have, and I wish to be In Canada, Make-A-Wish relies on funds donated by generous individuals and corporations. The funds raised in Canada help to deliver wishes to children across the country. Each chapter in Canada has its own fundraising programs to help provide wishes in their local communities
